Fairy Tattoos

There aren’t a lot of symbols that can represent the complexity of the feminine as well as fairy tattoos can. Oftentimes being small and sometimes well hidden fairy tattoos are mostly worn by women and they can mean a wide array of things, but most of their meaning is related to various female characteristics.

Fairy tattoos at their most basic represent a whimsical and delicate representation of a fantastic creature that is considered to be gentler and delicate. In this respect fairy tattoos are very similar to angel tattoos which are yet another very common motif chosen by women. But there is quite the difference between the two because fairy tattoos will usually contain other more human characteristics such as timidity and playfulness or mischief.

Fairy tattoos are very common as celebrity tattoos, many well known figures of the film or music industry have adorned their bodies with fairies in strategic places. One commonly used spot for fairy designs is found in lower back tattoos where fairy tattoos are combined with tribal tattoos to create an intricate and interesting illustration.

Traditionally fairies have been examples of free spirits, mythical creatures that would be equally inclined to give people various gifts or to play some naughty tricks on them, and it is mostly this duality of character that appeals to many because it represents who they are. Much like the fairy was in the habit of rewarding those who were good and punishing those who weren’t, so is the human spirit both capable of rewarding and punishing and this is one of the many reasons why fairy tattoos are very popular with girls especially.

Another reason for their popularity is the natural beauty of fairy tattoos as well as the fact that they can express an incredibly wide range of emotions that vary from joy and happiness to sadness and even pain. Another meaning of fairy tattoos in general is that of luck; this is because as time rolled by fairies began to be associated with luck in conjuncture with other classic symbols of luck like the shamrock or the leprechaun.

When you look at tattoos pictures of fairy tattoos you’ll see that these designs are more often than not combined with other designs like celtic tattoos or other similarly gentle and feminine creatures like butterfly tattoos or dragonfly tattoos to give the design a more complex and personal meaning.

Another meaning of fairy tattoos that may seem a bit less focused than the previous ones would be the wish of the wearer to hold on to a child-like imagination and a sense of wonder and awe, to some fairy tattoos being symbols of youthful innocence.

Yet another reason why women are so attracted to fairy tattoos is their versatility as to the color palette that can be used to color them, their size and to where on the body they can go; this means that they can use colors that maybe have a certain meaning to a person and that they can be situated in places where they can be easily covered if the occasion requires it.
